Underlay stabilizes the fabric before the top stitches land; correct stitch direction catches the light the way the design intends; and pull compensation keeps text and registration accurate as the fabric flexes under the needle. Small lettering, gradients, and tight registration between colours are where cheap digitizing falls apart: letters fill in, edges blur, outlines drift.
